abu garcia ambassadeur 5000 serial numbers

Here ya go, hope this helps. It appears to be a 72 model if it has a checkered foot and the spool bearings are 3 X 10 X 4 s.

ABU Serial Numbers

Among the many questions people have about ABU reels, the most frequently asked ones would be the meaning of those numbers stamped on the reel foot. This number can usually tell the approximate age of the reel. In most cases, these number are not serialized or unique to each reel except for some limited edition models.  These numbers usually indicate the production code which can mean a different design, manufacturing process or material change. Associated with these numbers will be the year in which this code was implemented. For example, 741120 would be different from 750030. There is no consistency in the way ABU number the reel foot but with a little experience combing servral other factors like design etc.. one can usually tell the approximate age. A useful rule which I learn from a tackle dealer in UK:

4 figure numbers   Found in 5000 De Luxes and 5000C Deluxes spanning early 1960s to 1970s   Smooth foot

5 figure numbers   Sometimes found in mid 50s record ambassadeurs and very early Ambassadeur 5000. Also found in reels made in the late 60s / early 70s especially the 5000C.   Smooth foot

6 figure numbers   Late 1950s to 1960s, numbers running from 1xxxxxx to 9xxxxxx. Found in early Ambassadeur 5000 and 6000 ribbed sideplates    Smooth foot

6 figure numbers   Late 60s / early 70s. Middle two digits indicating year. ie xx08xx - 1968   Smooth foot

1970s    6 figure numbers, first 2 or middle 2 numbers as read ie 71xxxx or xx71xx - 1971   Checkered foot

1980s    Same as 70s but usually first 2 digits ie 82xxxx - 1982    Checkered foot

Late 80s / early 90s   3 pair of numbers separated by -    Checkered foot

Late 90s   6 figures, usually the last digit. i.e. 060006 or 040006 refers to a reel made in 1996   Checkered foot

Hi. It looks like an old 5000B model. 3.8-1 tranny, a couple of hard phenolic drag washers, with a 1st generation snooze alarm.  This drawing should work.  WHATEVER you do, do NOT pull the yoke spring out of that square keeper by the push button.   5119-4056 If you do, you will rue the day, and fight with it for a very long time.

I d also click on the tutorial by KF23, over in the Abu section..the last sticky one on page one. it s a 6000B, a lot like yours. Ask him how he liked that spring thing.

This  is a pretty good site I found while feeling frustrated and hope it helps others as it did me.

The images are crisp and clear, easy to enlarge, and its in pdf form thats easy to use.   Maybe you,ll get lucky.

Found a website with over 7000 schematics. I thought this might help. I see reels on there from the mid 1930 s.

If you have a aluminum spool it s an L. If you have a chrome plated bronze spool it is a M. Both schematics are the same except for the spool material.

I m looking for these old Pflueger schematics - I m wondering if they ever existed.. I ve looked at all the links listed in this section some more than once. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Well, so far 115 people have viewed this, and no response, so I ll assume there are none anywhere and that they probably never existed in the first place. Thanks for looking.

For anyone interested, I ve located parts lists at Glenn s Reel Repair in Des Moines, IA - they don t have schematics, but a parts list might help if they also have the parts.

I m sure if someone here had some info they would step up to help you Sid.

I once had a heck of a time locating a schematic for a much newer reel. Finally just tore it open and went for it.

Hope you find what you are looking for.

Sid I cannot help on the schematic, but if you take photos of the reel as you take it apart you should be okay when putting it back together.  You are in Philadelphia and Sal is in Havertown.  I m sure he would be willing to help.  If you ship it to me I will work on it and send it back after doing a tutorial on this site.  Dominick

Did you try southwesternparts.com. They have a lot of drawings for reels.

Hi guys, sorry, I had stopped monitoring for answers. Dominick, I ve got the photo thing down, but I m not sure the thing is correctly assembled now, so reassembling it incorrectly won t help much. I m in S Florida though, not in Philly. I ve more experience and knowledge than I had when I originally posted this, so it s probably time to crack it open and give it another shot.

Hi again,

I have done some digging during day time and found out some more:

handi2, you are right on the dimensions. It is using 2 x 7x13x4mm Shimano part RD0930 , and 1 x 7x14x5mm Shimano part RD0026

MeL B, that link lead to a front drag reel, but i was able to find a similar 1000 class reel i can look at on that site.

Thank you both for your help.

Martin

Hi Jayce --

With ABU, there could be 3 or 4 schematic variations for the same reel.

But generally -- any of them will get you where you need to be for service and repair.

There are some experts on this board that would likely know more about these as regards to serial number date sequence, etc

But if they cannot help with a schematic -- I would look through my old shop manuals for one to scan and post for you.

Best,

Fred

Anybody know what happened to this site. The last few times I tried it I came up empty.  Am I misspelling it.

Don t know.  I know he was selling disks with schematics where you could down load for free, used photos and posts from Alan and others for his book without permission, and stuff.  Maybe this site caught up to him that it s information was freefrom hereand no sales.

even the facebook page died.  i think the problem was that maybe people thought from the beginning that the guy was trying to make money off of them.   too bad, really.  i could have been a great resource.

send me an email at alantani yahoo.com for questions.

G day Wolli,

As far as I m aware, the Marfix design has been around for a while and has been licensed to a number of manufacturers, including Blue Heaven.

This should be pretty much identical:

211.0Let us know how you get on.

Cheers, Justin

Fortitudine vincimus - By endurance we conquer

The hand drawn schematics are for the 2 1/2FN,  4/0, 7 1/2, 9/0 12/0  It appears these reels are all similar as the schematics appear to be the same. I am sending a copy for the 12/0 which consists of 7 pages showing a breakdown of all the sub assemblies.  I was advised that each one was machined from a block of aircraft grade aluminum then anodized.

I just had my first one in for repair, a 12/0 and I hate to admit it this the  first reel that stumped me. I worked on it for over 3 weeks off and on. Someone had it apart before, but it is a simple design and heavy making it awkward to handle..  I was unable to have the reel free spool. It was loose and the handle turned smoothly, but with the drag in the full relaxed position the spool would not turn on its own and no matter what I did I could not get it to work. When I got it you couldn t even crank ir  I had to return it  better, but not fully well.

Sorry, JoseLuis --

The Daiwa, Penn, and Mitchell shop manuals I have are over 1000 pages.

Neither you nor I could afford to have me scan and transmit them to you -- one by one

However, I could help wih specific requests if not too much effort or time is needed.

You can go to Southwestern Parts in Dallas, Texas --

Mikes Reel Repair in Canada --

Scott s Bait and Tackle, here in the US.

Mitchell Museum.

They should have all of the schematics you mentioned at no charge.

Good luck.

Best Regards,

I just bought a Record 51 reel used, and it seems very good. I also have a 5601 C4. Is the Record considered a better reel than the 5601 C4.

Reply 1 on: June 22, 2015, :51 AM

the price tag would certainly make you think that.

both reels benefit from a full service.   after that, i doubt that a fish could tell the difference.  if i closed my eyes and cranked, i doubt that i could either.

Reply 2 on: June 25, 2015, :22 PM

Alan,

Thank you. I noticed that the record has a spool with vented holes. It casts further with the same set up as the C4. I hope to get a schematic to figure out where the difference in performance comes from. Paul
